  • Town and around walks - Summer 2018

    Walks start at 7pm at the Clarkson Memorial. The cost of each walk is £3 per person EXCEPT for 25th July No Booking is necessary EXCEPT for 25th July Proceeds go to Octavia Hill's Birthplace House.
  • Wednesday 20th June “Gordon Fendick's Wisbech” with Steve Tierney

    Mrs Fendick, widow of the nationally-renowned educator gave the Regency Castle building for the education and benefit of the people of Wisbech. Town Mayor Peter Human will unveil a plaque in Gordon Fendick's memory and Steve Tierney will outline future plans.
  • Wednesday 27th June “Walking the clocks of Wisbech” with Roy Norman

    Walk with the engineer and horologist who led the team rebuilding and restoring the Carillon and clock in the Wisbech working men's institute clock tower, will highlight the present and past importance of the clocks that are sometimes ignored in this digital age.
  • Wednesday 4th July “Wisbech General Cemetery Chapel” with David Crouch

    Visit to this Heritage Lottery Funded Project which is nearing completion. The Treasurer of the Wisbech Society will tell us about the rebuilding and renovation as a community resource of this key element in the town's history of dissent.
  • Wednesday 11th July “Quaker Wisbech: the secret princess” with Peter Clayton

    A town walk and a talk in the Quaker Meeting House featuring the grave and home of the natural daughter of King James II. She fled to Wisbech following the so-called Bloodless Revolution of 1688 and lived openly for 30 years as a market trader.
  • Wednesday 18th July “The demon drink” walk with Peter Clayton and Roger Rawson

    Using Andrew Oldham's classic historical survey of Wisbech's public houses we will tour today's hostelries, whose existence can be threatened by the present economic climate and other restrictions.
  • Wednesday 25th July “River Nene to Sutton Bridge” with Peter Harvey

    The former harbour-master will host our river trip from the marina at Freedom Bridge down the tidal River Nene to the celebrated Edwardian swing bridge that still today enables sea-going ships to arrive in the heart of our town. Meet 5.30pm for 6pm at Freedom Bridge.
