  • John Clarkson

    May Bank Holiday, Monday, May 27, Birthplace House, 2.30pm, talk by Roger Powell, biographer of John Clarkson (brother of Thomas Clarkson), who took 1,192 freed Africans back to Africa, treating them with dignity as equals, followed by unveiling of plaque to John Clarkson in the Birthplace House garden.     Brinks Gala Weekend, Saturday, June 29, Birthplace House, 7.30pm for 7.45pm, wine and cheese opening night of contemporary art exhibition by the Precious Earth Art Collective. Includes the unveiling of a new bust of Charles Dickens, commissioned by the Birthplace House from sculptor Charlotte Samson. 'Breathe' exhibition runs to October 30.
